Tach pollard has been a wood carver for 8 years running a small studio from his home in rural East Sussex. He studied art briefly at Eastbourne College of Art and Design before leaving the UK to help his father set up a new business in Spain.

After some time working in the retail business I came upon a talent for woodcarving. This started off with collecting unusual pieces of wood from local woodlands and using the organic curves of the timber to depict the style and content of each carving.

My real love affair came about when I came upon an old pile of oak roots, which I had collected for a small business venture as a child. Pulling the weather beaten old sheet off those roots that day was very magical. Because as soon as I noticed these gnarled old roots, I knew I was going to love carving them as much as when I was a child, I loved to collect and carefully clean them to reveal there earthy forms. Reconnecting with these old friends brought my life new meaning and a deeper love of the abundance of nature.

My work has centered on tree roots mainly oak. I try to allow the wood to describe the carving. It is such a joy to try and capture the essence of each root. I also create work for several other markets including arts and craft galleries, interior design shops, and sculpture trails, as well as many commissioned pieces for schools, council run woodland parks, garden designers and private buyers.
